Multiple Marrow Cultures from a Single Aspirate.
نویسنده
چکیده
Osgood and Brownlee (1937) described a simple method of bone marrow culture. They employed 20 ml. serum bottles containing a plasma or serum medium diluted with a physiological salt solution. Since the volume of marrow aspirate is limited to 1-2 ml., and it is best to have 1-2,000 cells per ml. of medium, one experiment is usually limited to five or six cultures. This method permits of as many as 30 cultures being explanted from one specimen of marrow.

Bone marrow morphological features and diagnostic value in paediatric disseminated tuberculosis in the setting of increased HIV prevalence.
BACKGROUND Disseminated tuberculosis (TB) is a life-threatening condition which is often a challenge to diagnose. When to use bone marrow biopsies to diagnose disseminated TB in paediatrics is always a dilemma, from both a clinical and laboratory perspective, as there are no clear guidelines. Our study primarily aims to evaluate the role of routine bone marrow biopsies, and to compare periphera...
متن کاملSingle- Versus Multiple-Site Harvesting Techniques for Bone Marrow Concentrate: Evaluation of Aspirate Quality and Pain
BACKGROUND Bone marrow concentrate (BMC) is growing in popularity as an alternative treatment option in orthopaedics. The regenerative capacity of BMC has been linked to the number of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) present in the graft at the time of its clinical application. MSC counts in bone marrow aspirate (BMA) are affected by harvest technique, but controversy exists over which aspiration ...
متن کاملIgD (kappa) "nonsecretory" multiple myeloma: report of a case.
A case of IgD "nonsecretory" multiple myeloma in a 46-yr-old woman is reported. Despite the presence of disseminated osteolytic lesions, both serum protein electrophoresis and serum and urine immunoelectrophoresis were normal. In addition, bone scintigraphic study was normal. Bone marrow biopsy and aspirate obtained from the left femur lytic lesion showed only myelomatous proplasmocytes; when e...
متن کاملGrowth in semisolid agar of prostate cancer cells obtained from bone marrow aspirates.
Thirty-one bone marrow aspirations were performed on patients with prostatic carcinoma metastatic to bone. After separation over a Ficoll-Hypaque gradient viable nucleated cells were cultured in semisolid agar. Colony formation occurred in 14 of 27 (52%) nonbacterially contaminated cultures. Characterization of cells from the colonies showed them to be consistent with malignant prostate cells. ...
